Bryanston Clinic, located near the Bryanston Shopping Centre, has announced a new community health initiative providing free monthly diabetes screenings and educational workshops for local residents. The program, which commenced this week, is specifically designed to raise awareness and facilitate early detection of Type 2 diabetes, a condition increasingly linked to modern lifestyles prevalent in affluent areas like Bryanston.
The screenings, conducted by qualified nurses and medical professionals, will take place on the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the clinic's premises. In addition to glucose testing, participants will receive information on healthy eating, exercise recommendations, and the importance of regular check-ups. The initiative responds to growing concerns among local healthcare providers about the rise in non-communicable diseases within the Sandton region.
Dr. Eleanor Vance, a general practitioner at Bryanston Clinic, emphasised the importance of proactive health management for the community. "While Bryanston residents often have access to excellent healthcare, the demands of a corporate lifestyle and the availability of convenience foods can sometimes lead to overlooked health risks. Our goal with this free screening program is to empower individuals with knowledge and facilitate early intervention, which is crucial for managing diabetes effectively and preventing complications," Dr. Vance stated during the launch.
The clinic encourages all Bryanston residents, particularly those over 40 or with a family history of diabetes, to utilise this free service. This initiative underscores the clinic's commitment to community well-being, complementing other local efforts to promote healthy living, such as the ongoing maintenance of the Bryanston Spruit walking trails.
